How to improve adsense eCPM
68Improving adsense eCPM is imperative if you want to make a nice amount of money on hubpages. At least the kind of money that will help pay your bills and maybe even help you pay away some of your debt. A great eCPM will absolutely compensate for a small number of views. If you do get many views, a great eCPM will have a significant impact on the amount of money that you will earn from the hubpages ad program that is affiliated with google adsense. There are some "unspoken" rules that you will need to follow, especially if you are here to make money. Follow them, and you will see a lot of success. I decided to make this hub simple and to the point so that you will be able to get a clear idea of what to do and how to go about it. Patience and perseverance are especially important in these cases, so do not expect to see results in just a couple of days. With enough time, tactic and practice, however, there really is no reason why you should not be earning a nice chunk of money with adsense.
1. Do your SEO research.
Really, this is a rule that I cannot stress enough. Open a google adwords account - it will not cost you a penny as long as you do not use it to advertise anything. Use its keyword tools, and enter a keyword that you plan on writing your hub on. It will show you all the global and local monthly searches and the "competition" as a shaded bar. Competition actually means the number of advertisers bidding on that keyword. High competition means that the advertisers will be willing to pay more money to advertise in pages with that keyword. So tweak your keywords and try to find a keyword / words that have high competition and a decent number of searches. Then use this keyword throughout your hub and and also in the title of your hub. This will ensure that your hub will appear relatively high up in the search results and that you will get most of the traffic, AND give you a great boost to your eCPM. This method is better than using a keyword with low competition and a high number of searches. If it has a high number of searches, chances are that your hub will not make it to the first page as there will be other articles that have a better domain age (the longer your article has been on the web - the higher it will rank), and that whatever traffic you will get will get you just a few cents.
2. Write on matters that will earn the most money.
It is important that you write on subjects that you are passionate about. However, if you are more interested in making money through hubpages, you will have to resort to writing hubs that are focused on keywords that advertisers will pay the most for. The highest earning fields are investment, money, stock markets, debts - anything financially related. So focus on those issues for a high earning hub. As a tip, when you have written and published your hub, check the revenue potential. Five dollar signs indicates maximum revenue, which is a very rough indicator of where your hub stands.
3. Write for the Americans.
This is another tip that I discovered on my own. Most advertisers are American, and are only willing to pay up for the impressions that will benefit them. Basically, impressions from other countries will significantly lower your eCPM. I had a hub that did very well overseas, but I learned much less during the time period that the hub was published when compared to the times the hub was not published. If you would like to read more about how exactly I came about discovering this phenomenon, check out the following link -

Tip - Use google adwords to your advantage. If the local monthly searches are close in number to the global monthly searches, use that keyword. If not, stay away from it.
4. Delete hubs that lower your eCPM.
This is related to the concept above. If you find that you tend to get a lot of traffic from overseas, chances are that this is the reason that your eCPM is lowered. Delete that hub immediately. In order to find the hubs that lower your eCPM, check the above link. If you do however, have a hub that attracts a LOT of localtraffic but just happens to have a low eCPM, use it to your advantage by just removing the advertising of that hub. This way, you might be able to get a lot of traffic to other hubs that will have higher eCPMs.
5. Delete your publisher ID once in a while.
This is another trick that I found out to work from time to time. If you find that your eCPM is decreasing a LOT, delete the publisher ID and let it be for a few days. When you re-enter the publisher ID, you will find your eCPM to be a lot higher. Do this from time to time to give your eCPM a kick. Even though you will loose some money for a few days, the eCPM boost will compensate for that, and more. I am not sure why this happens - but it is just one of those unexplained things about google adsense.
